A/the Classroom
how do we learn in fishing nets?
SCROLL
DOCUMENTATION
When a variety of plants are put in a vessel of water a few thrive, some survive, and others die. Our multi-sensory installation materializes how an outdated education system feels — like being caught and dragged through industrial fishing nets.
The project was a combination of video, sound, performances and experiential spaces that sparked emotive conversations on the varied experiences of the schooling systems.
PROCCESS
Our process was an amalgamation of reflection and discussion on our personal experiences, foraging in the hills, visits to the botanical garden and department of agriculture, studio visit at Neera Joshi Pradhan's studio, prototyping and experimenting with media. A lot of helping hands made this effort possible from laser cutting to setting up the gallery.
The concept was collaboratively developed with Sushant Shree Rajbhandari whose performance you can see and Prajwaal Dhungana whose writings you hear in the linked video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5OO43I2Uu8)
This project was a part of the exhibition "On taking flight" which was an outcome Danfe Art's Peer Exchange program 2022. The program was funded by the Swiss Embassy of Nepal and the exhibition took place at the Gallery of Creatives, Kathmandu, Nepal.
